ow cut 14th century shoes

The shoes shown here are several years old and have recently been rescued from being horribly moldy.

It is a turn-welt ankle boot, built with a rand, a top band, a heel reinforcment and a tongue. The upper is one piece, joined at the instep.

What I would do different:
Bigger tongue
One more toggle.

The butted seam at the instep, showing the one-piece upper consruction. Threads are only visible from inside. A edge/flesh stitch was used.

The top band and heel reinforcment are visible. For the topband a butted seam with edge/flesh stitch was used to attach the band. The it was folded and secured with whip stitch.
the heel reinforcment was first sewn in between rand and upper and the secured with a whip stitch.

The rand. It fills the gap between sole and upper after turning.

The toggle closure is shown. The slitted straps are part of the upper and were cut out in one piece with the upper. The toggles were made separately and then attached to the upper.
