This is a variation on the sheep bend
If you are having problems closing this knot by simply pulling at all ends, just make sure to work it a bit and it will close up nicely.
I am making no claims to historical accuracy here, but this knot could be used to create the crowsfoot like rope arrangement seen on paintings of 14th, 15th and 16th century pavilions, where thre rope attaches to the valance of the tent (the flap like edge that covers the gap between roof an and walls. This is a set of three ropes attached to the canvas, the some mysterious knot, and then a single line emerging from this knot, leading down to the tent stake.
